A modern opera, using the 12-tone scale that depicts the debauchery of war, Die Soldaten will make newcomers uncomfortable. Those familiar with the earlier works of Berg, Schoenberg, and Webern will find much to enjoy in this brilliant production from the Salzburg Festiva.
