The Film

[Rating:3/5]

Incredibly Ever After tells the story of one of the world’s greatest superheroes – the mighty Gazer Warrior. Known for being able to overcome any foe, Aroma Woman doesn’t necessarily have the smarts to defeat Warrior, but rather has stolen his heart. Figuring the only way he can prove his love for her is by hanging up his cape, he’s surprised when she agrees to marry him. Everything seems to be going well for the newlyweds, until Aroma declares she wants a baby. Warrior, in hopes of not disappointing his bride, enters a martial arts tournament – all so he can gather the knowledge and power to please his wife. What results is one of the odder Funimation efforts I’ve reviewed, but one that is still fairly entertaining mostly thanks to the over-the-top fights and scenery.

The varying locales used here in Incredibly Ever After, help to make this the kind of movie that doesn’t necessarily make sense, but the kind of film that is visually pleasing to look at. That and the movie is so over-the-top with its mix of action and comedy that we really can’t help but be entertained. Playing out as a kind of animated effort mixed in with live-action material, the scenery mixes in with action well. Even though the story itself does make you scratch your head at times (mostly due to the oddity of the plot), I still found this one to be worth a watch for fans of the genre at hand.

Video Quality

[Rating:4.5/5]

Incredibly Ever After arrives with a 2:35:1 framed, AVC MPEG-4 encoded transfer, one of which is solid. The film’s color palette, with all the different locales, features bright, vibrant colors especially that of the clear blues of the ocean on some of the wider, panning shots. Clarity is excellent, with accurate flesh tones, as are facial details of our characters. Issues like DNR, noise, or print damage are nowhere to be found. All in all, this is a clean effort from the folks at Funimation.

Audio Quality

[Rating:4/5]

Equally solid is the film’s Cantonese Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mix. Dialogue is easy to understand and read via the provided English subtitles. Even though dialogue tends to dominate a majority of the beginning of the film, when the action does begin to occur, the surrounds kick into action providing ample atmosphere. LFE hits at just the right level, giving us deep, immersive low-end when called upon. Discrete effects, fidelity and pans between rears are all perfect with no real problem. My only slight complaint is how some of the dialogue moments, initially at least, seem like they were recorded a bit too low, thus requiring us to raise the volume. Outside of this, I found this track suited the film well.

The Definitive Word

Overall:

[Rating:3/5]

While Incredibly Ever After won’t hit the right notes with everyone, I found the film to be mostly entertaining thanks to the mix of cartoony action with beautiful scenery. Funimation’s Blu-ray accurately captures the locales with a fine V/A presentation, but no real features. I’m going to recommend this one only to fans of the genre.
