Madama Butterfly, a perennial operatic favorite, is given a routine rendering in this Sferisterio Festival performance. The principals are neither vocally nor visually suited for the high definition Blu-ray scene while the remainder of the cast and musicians are adequate at best. The videography is the strong suit of this traditionally staged production by Pier Luigi Pizzi.
