Star soprano Renee Fleming gives us her first Ariadne in this 2012 Baden-Baden production led by top conductor Christian Thielemann. Supported by a strong cast and superb recording properties, this is a great watch if not the definitive performance of this delightful work.

Humdrum sets aside, the performance values carry the day and ensure much viewing pleasure, beginning with the drop-dead gorgeous star, mezzo-soprano, Elina Garanča.
The Metropolitan Opera gives us a “Live in HD” broadcast Blu-ray of Donizetti’s masterpiece. Some strange stage business aside, there is plenty of strong singing and music-making going on, certainly enough to recommend this one to all opera-lovers.
