The Film

[Rating:3.5/5]

Warner’s DC Universe series of animated films continues with the animated vision of Grant Morrison’s All-Star Superman series of comics. It’s unbelievably the indestructible Superhero’s last days on Earth. He’s dying from too much exposure to the very thing that gives him his powers – sunlight. So, he finally reveals his identity to the woman he loves, Lois Lane, spends a romantic twenty-four hours with her imbued with his powers after giving her a serum he created. But, Superman, ever weakening, must battle his nemesis Lex Luthor, who also gains access to the serum, as well as rogue sun that turns the Earth’s sun blue threatening to destroy the planet.

The film is not exactly one of the strongest in the DC Universe series. The voice acting is sometimes a bit weak, the action sequences seem a bit inconsistent, plodding, and unrelated. Otherwise, All-Star Superman goes by easily and is quite fun to watch for fans of the man of steel.

Video Quality

[Rating:4/5]

All-Star Superman looks pretty good with bright colors and a clean image. There are no problems with video noise or compression artifacts and the line art looks sharp. There is some color banding, but otherwise the image is very watchable.

Audio Quality

[Rating:4/5]

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack is an active one with heavy use of the surround channels. There is lots of motion in the mix and deep low frequency extension so that explosions and punches really boom.

The Definitive Word

Overall:

[Rating:3.5/5]

In the world of Superman, this All-Star Superman release may not be the greatest animated film, but it is good enough to please hardcore Superman fans and it adds an unexpected twist to the man of steel’s universe.
