An very early entry into the realm of romantic comedy, Perfect Understanding pairs silent screen legend Gloria Swanson with the up-and-coming young Laurence Olivier. An outstanding restoration effort by the Cohen Media Group, this is fairly lightweight stuff that will tickle viewers’ fancies if nothing more than that.
The Criterion Collection gives us a nicely restored version of Sir Laurence Olivier’s rendering of Shakespeare’s villainous Richard III. While the sound is a bit boxy, the often gorgeous details and colors more than compensate for this one shortcoming. With outstanding British actors at the top of their game, this is a must watch for all movie lovers.
