Sony to Bring 3-D to Current Blu-ray Players Via Firmware Updates

Sony this week announced that its previously introduced BDP-S570 Blu-ray Disc player and BDV-E770W and BDV-E570 Blu-ray Disc home theater systems will be Blu-ray 3-D capable with firmware updates available this summer. Additionally, the company unveiled the BDP-S470 stand-alone Blu-ray 3D-ready player. The model can also be upgraded to play Blu-ray 3-D content with a firmware update available this summer.

The Sony BDP-S470 3D-ready Blu-ray Player

All models feature support for streaming media content from services such as Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Slacker Internet Radio, Pandora (Coming in spring 2010), NPR, Sony Pictures, Sony Music and over 25 providers through Sony’s BRAVIA Internet video service.

The new models can also be controlled with an iPhone or iPod Touch with a free app called BD Remote that can be downloaded from the iTunes app store. The app allows the iPhone or iPod to Touch to function as a Blu-ray Disc player remote control that can also access cover art, actor and production credits, and download video clips online.
