A Confident, Standalone Stomp

Jurassic World: Rebirth stomps into theaters with the confidence of a franchise that knows exactly what it is—and what it wants to be. Directed by Gareth Edwards, this latest dino epic wisely dials back the mythology in favor of a more grounded, self-contained story. While there are callbacks for longtime fans, Rebirth doesn’t rely on nostalgia. It stands alone, and it does that well. It exists in a vacuum of sorts, free from the weight of sequels or future setups. That might frustrate some, but for many, it’s a welcome breath of fresh air.

Visuals & Scale: Where Rebirth Truly Roars

The film wastes no time getting to the action. From the opening sequence, Edwards makes it clear he’s here to bring scale, weight, and awe. The dinosaurs feel more real than ever, the environments richly textured, and the human characters—while still second to the prehistoric stars—get just enough development to keep us invested. Visually, Rebirth is a stunner. The effects work is virtually flawless. There wasn’t a single moment where the illusion cracked. That’s no surprise considering Gareth Edwards’ pedigree—when Steven Spielberg calls you up and asks you to direct the next Jurassic movie, you say “yes” and carry on.

Edwards’ Assured Direction: Precision & Restraint

The biggest strength of Jurassic World: Rebirth is Edwards’ assured direction. He brings the same visual precision and grounded scale that made Rogue One and The Creator stand out. Every frame is thoughtfully composed, and action beats are choreographed with clarity and weight. There’s a restraint here that elevates the film—it’s not trying to top every previous explosion or creature fight. Instead, it builds tension with atmosphere and pacing. In a franchise often associated with loud, chaotic set pieces, this more measured approach is refreshing.

Minor Quibbles in the Undergrowth

That said, the film isn’t without its flaws. The script occasionally dips into familiar tropes, and some supporting characters feel undercooked. But the direction and visual storytelling are so strong that these bumps don’t derail the experience. You’re here for the dinosaurs, and they deliver.

The Essential Viewing Experience

Seeing Jurassic World: Rebirth in Dolby Cinema is an absolute must. The immersive Atmos sound design and dynamic HDR visuals make it the ultimate way to experience the film. Your eyes and ears will thank you.

Final Thoughts

As much as I enjoyed Jurassic World: Rebirth, I do hope this is a one-and-done for Gareth Edwards in the franchise. He’s proven once again that he’s one of the best directors working in large-scale sci-fi, and I’d rather see him return to something original—maybe a sequel to The Creator, or something entirely new.

Overall, I’m giving Jurassic World: Rebirth a 3.5 out of 5. It’s a strong entry, visually spectacular, and confidently directed. It’s definitely a top-tier entry in the franchise, and if this is the new direction, the series still has plenty of life left in it. Just don’t expect it to set up the next chapter—this one’s happy to let the dinosaurs do the talking.
