I have to admit upfront that Katy Perry’s music is not really my thing, but watching her perform in The Prismatic World Tour Live was impressive. This is one of the most dazzling, eye-popping, exciting shows anyone can ever see. And coming from someone who is not a big fan of Ms. Perry’s, you know you can take that to the bank. The show was shot in December 2014 during Perry’s record-breaking appearance in Sydney, Australia. Performing in front of a towering, prism-shaped display, the show was segmented into seven acts, Prismatic, Egyptian, Catoure, Acoustic, Throwback, Hyperneon, Encore. She goes through numerous colorful costume changes, has a troupe of dancers, and puts on a high-energy, fun and friendly performance that includes her numerous #1 hits including “Roar,” “Firework,” “I Kissed a Girl” and “California Gurl”. This is magnificence and a show that even puts U2’s classic Zoo TV tour to shame.

The Prismatic World Tour was shot in HD and brought to Blu-ray from Eagle Rock in a1080i/60 AVC encodement. This is a dazzling show and, amazingly, with all the glitz, flashing lights and motion, the interlaced image comes across well with hardly any artifacts, and with bright lively colors and lots of detail.
Prismatic was recorded and mixed by Pete Keppler with 5.1 mixing and mastering by Adam Aryan at Gateway Mastering. The audio is offered up in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (96kHz/24-bit) and LPCM 2.0 (96kHz/24-bit) stereo options. The sound, despite being in high-resolution, is disappointing for this set. Everything sounds very loud and the high frequencies are over emphasized and fatiguing. While it does have a very big arena sound, there’s isn’t a strong sense of instrumental separation and it seems like everything is competing for the same space with very little dynamic range. Katy Perry’s voice does come through well, however and there’s good low end.
