OPPO Introduces New Blu-ray Player: BDP-80

OPPO, known for their high quality, relatively inexpensive, and fully-featured DVD players have unveiled a new Blu-ray Disc player that is the third in their Blu-ray player lineup. The new BDP-80 joins the more expensive BDP-83 ($499) and BDp-83SE ($899) models in the company’s lineup at a lower price point and offers a full-featured, universal player for the price conscious home theatre enthusiast.

The OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Player sells for $289

But if you think you have to sacrifice features at the BDP-80’s $289 price, think again. Like the more expensive BDP-83, the BDp-80 supports playback of SACD and DVD-Audio high resolution audio formats,  HDCD, CD, and DVD playback, Full Profile 2.0 BD-Live and Profile 1.1 BonusView Blu-ray playaback, and decoding and bitstreaming (via the player’s HDMI 1.3 output) of the advanced audio codecs DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD. The BDP-80 also has analogue 7.1 audio outputs, component video output and S-video output for hooking up to that legacy hardware that’s still lingering out there. The OPPO has dual USB ports and 1GB of internal storage for BD-Live. With the 1GB of internal storage the player can be used right out of the box for BD-Live without having to purchase additional flash storage.
