Jeepers Creepers tells the story of two homeward-bound teens in Patricia (Gina Philips) and Darry Jenner (Justin Long). Traveling for Spring Break, the two soon find themselves nearly run off the road by a maniac in a beat-up truck. Thinking nothing of this, the two continue on their way home only to soon find the same man throwing a body down a sewer pipe. Now, the normal person would probably just call the police, but this IS a Hollywood movie after all. Stopping to investigate, the two are shocked at what they discover and more fearful that this psycho now is hunting them! What results is a rather boring attempt at creating scares.
It’s not that I don’t find modern horror to be scary or terrifying (see Pan’s Labyrinth for an example of excellent horror). Moreover it’s that I’m sick and tired of Hollywood churning out junk of this nature instead of the older styled horror movies (you know – the ones with physical scares, not just things that jump at the camera). The saddest part about this is horror films are relatively cheap to produce, so I don’t see this trend stopping. Well, enough of this rant – I’m just going to go watch the original Halloween again. *sigh*

Jeepers Creepers debuts on Blu-ray with a 1:85:1 framed, AVC MPEG-4 encoded transfer, which offers up a fairly solid effort for a film roughly 12 years old. Outside of a few initial opening moments, a majority of the film has a very dark tone and feel to it. These dark sequences do look just fine though, with no major instance of smearing of colors or crushing of blacks. The brighter scenes do result in mostly accurate flesh tones (although the characters do have a pale look to them). Clarity is definitely improved over the bargain bin DVD, while the film’s layer of grain remains. All in all, this isn’t a perfect transfer, but is the best the film has ever looked (and probably ever will).
Audio Quality

Featuring an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix, I found this lossless offering a bit lacking in some areas. Dialogue is well reproduced throughout via the center channel, while the film’s atmosphere does open up quite a bit once the action starts occurring. Little discrete effects do fill the rears like that of water dripping, cars revving or our characters screaming. Where the mix lacks is in the LFE department. It’s not to say that there’s no LFE present, more the LFE is almost ‘too’ present at times. The LFE kicks and punches in places it doesn’t even need to. While this isn’t a HUGE issue, I found it to be distracting, thus lowering my score from 4.0 to 3.5.

Jeepers Creepers, despite Fox’s solid efforts on the technical side of this Blu-ray, is just too dull to ever warrant a recommendation. Unless you’re a diehard of this one (for some reason), completely avoid these ‘creeps’.
