The Film

[Rating:3.5/5]

2000’s The Tigger Movie, directed by Jun Falkenstein, is a completely family friendly adventure based on the lovable characters of A.A. Milne. This particular tale features Tigger (voiced by the inimitable Jim Cummings) who along with the rest of his friends in the hundred-acre-wood, including Winnie the Pooh (also voiced by Cummings), Roo (Nikita Hopkins), Rabbit (Ken Sansom), Piglet (John Fiedler), Eeyore (Peter Cullen), Owl (Andre Stojka) and Kanga (Kath Soucie), goes searching for his family members in hopes that he will find that he is not the only Tigger in the world. Narrated warmly by John Hurt (The Immortals; Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), The Tigger Movie may be terribly predictable from the perspective of an adult, but its childlike wonder and magical animation make it a true joy.The film is thoroughly infused with the Disney magic, from the beautiful backgrounds that marvelously mimic the Milne storybooks, to the musical numbers from veteran Disney songwriters Robert and Richard Sherman this is one animated journey you won’t mind taking a few times, regardless of what age you are.

Video Quality

[Rating:4.5/5]

The Tigger Movie on Blu-ray comes with an AVC/MPEG-4 1080p encodement that looks as beautiful as we have come to expect from the majority of Disney’s animated releases on Blu-ray. The image is clean with just the slightest hint of grain, colors are exceptionally vibrant and the line art is crisp. Apart from a few spots in the opening live action sequence where the white areas look a little rough, blown out and heavily grained, this one is just about flawless. This one is sure to please.

Audio Quality

[Rating:4/5]

While the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz/24-bit) soundtrack isn’t as aggressive as we’ve come to expect from most animated releases, the mix is still thoroughly enjoyable. It has wide imaging with strong dynamic range, a weighty amount of lows to anchor its musical numbers and sound effects and clean, clear dialogue. Ambience and atmospheric effects in the surrounds are lush and evenly balanced with the front channels.

The Definitive Word

Overall:

[Rating:4/5]

Perhaps this Tigger Movie doesn’t have quite the emotional depth of some of the true Disney classics, but being completely devoid of double entendres, irony, and any questionable jokes, this is just pure, wholesome family entertainment that is, in the end, a every pleasurable watch.
