This Week’s Definitive Blu-ray Releases (December 15, 2009)

This week sees numerous highly anticipated and blockbuster releases across a variety of genres coming to Blu-ray so it should be a real boon for Blu-ray lovers.

Leading the pack this week is Quentin Tarantino’s return to form with his World War II epic Inglourious Basterds starring Brad Pitt.

Next up is the in-your-face ensemble comedy of The Hangover starring Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helm (The Office), and Bradley Cooper (He’s Just Not that Into You).

Filling out the science fiction genre this week is the classic television franchise Star Trek: The Original Series – Season 3. Star Trek: The Original Series – Seasons 1-3 have also been released together in one collection.

If kid-friendly action films are to your liking, then the Jerry Bruckheimer film G-Force about an elite force of government-trained guinea pigs may be to your liking.

Anime fans will be happy to see the hip-hop infused swordplay action of the popular anime title Samurai Champloo: The Complete Series arriving from Funimation as well as Basilisk: The Complete Series, also from Funimation.

And if you are into comedy films, then you are most likely into the films of Mel Brooks and 20th Century Fox has released The Mel Brooks Collection featuring 9 of Brooks’ classic films (The 12 Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, History of the World — Part I, Silent Movie, To Be or Not To Be, High Anxiety, Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights) in an elegant box set with a 120-page hardcover coffee table book.

Taking Woodstock, the comedic look at the historic concert event, also arrives this week from Universal.

And finally, there’s something for music lovers this week as well as Beyonce releases her concert video, I Am… Yours An Intimate Performance At Wynn Las Vegas.
